Community Involvement

Foodbank NT Foodbank NT is working to end hunger - it’s a hidden problem.  One in 10 Australians experience food insecurity every year, half of which are children.  Foodbank NT is located in Berrimah, tasked with creating a central donation/collection point for “surplus” food in Darwin and for subsequent distribution to community service organisations.  There are now over 110 such organisations registered with Foodbank NT, which distribute the food to individuals and families who are struggling.  Foodbank NT does not generate substantial revenue, relying on contributions of money and in-kind support.  NAAFLS have recently become members of Foodbank NT and this affiliation will allow us to support clients in need of emergency assistance in a broader more substantial manner.  NAAFLS staff are also hoping to start volunteering at the Food For Life Centre in the new year.
